D major scale works the same as the half-scale we’ve done previously. Essentially you play the D half scale, then play the exact same fingers again on the A string.
The blue notes below are played on the A string. The rest is on D.
Nice long bows — keep it slow to get started.
The trickiest part with this one is in the descending scale – getting from the open A string to third finger G on the D string.
Make sure your fingers are curled over the D string and ready to “pounce” to pop all three fingers down.
Busy Busy Stop Stop Rhythm
Try playing along with the accompaniment below. There is a two-bar introduction then you’ll play the scale to the rhythm of “busy busy stop stop”.
Note that the D (third finger on A) is played twice in this one — once on the way up and again on the way down.
There is a rest between each note, so you have time to get ready for the next. Use your ears!
Funky D Major Scale!
This is another backing track you can play along with. Same idea as the one above. It has a slightly longer introduction and it plays through twice with a break in the middle.
Have a listen first so you can year the introduction and count in when to start.
