A major scale

This key has three sharps – C#, F# and G#. We will sing and say those as “Cis, “Fis” and “Gis”.

A-Major scale starts on A and has three sharps (C#, F# and G#).

Practice tip:
Same as D major scale, sing the scale as you point to the notes.

For violins, the one-octave A major scale uses the exact same fingers as the D major scale — it just uses the A and E string instead.

We won’t be playing this in class with the violas, but it’s important to know the sequence of notes (sing sing sing!)

Singing helps our ears associate the sounds with the names of the notes. The more you sing and listen, the easier this will be. It makes playing in tune much easier!
